lego, lego, lego

the cold, wet spring we've been 'enjoying' and a lack of cable tv has meant that my kids have been entertaining themselves with lego every chance they get. every time they get a new set they build it according to the plan. but within days the 'kits' have morphed into a dozen different original creations. the boys tend to make ships, vehicles, and things that move or shoot and nothing seems to be saved in it's original format for long. my daughter tends to create elaborate structures and villages and woe is the brother who steals a coveted piece or a parent who accidently knocks anything over.

the nearest mall just opened a lego shop and we've visited several times. the kids love to look at it all but have not harassed us for any more sets. which really is an indication of just how much lego we already have at home. (we've probably spent more on lego than i did on my first car. and anyone who has ever fallen in love with a little british sports car will understand exactly what that means). but this weeks visit to the lego store had me seriously considering a purchase or two for myself. almost the entire lego architecture line was calling my name. mother's day is coming up and lego will last longer than flowers or a british sports car. and it's certainly the only way i'm going to own farnsworth house or fallingwater.

i can't stand the tension much longer.. in 6 hours or so the puck will drop in the stanley cup final. the canucks are celebrating their 40th anniversary and if (when) we win it will be the first time ever.  my husband is going and i am green with envy.

it's great to see how the canucks quest for the cup has brought everyone together this hockey season. the city is a sea of green and blue gear. throughout the year the players and canucks organization do so much for this city and province. canuck place, support for kids with mental health concerns, and kids and families facing autism are just some of the ways the team contributes to the greater community.

i will be watching at home with the kids and hope to join all our neighbors out on the street to celebrate our win!

i have been reading The Small Object Stenopad for a long time. today i finally got the chance to see some of sarah neuburger's creations in person at paper-ya at granville island and they did not disappoint. i will definitely be putting the journal on my christmas list and buying some of the stamps and stickers for a creative little girl i know.

fall seems to be making an early arrival this year. vancouver had an unprecedented hot summer so it seems a little cruel that it will be over soon. not that fall doesn't have it's charms but rain is not one of them.
i have spent most of my life on the wet west coast but i honestly never wore proper footwear or carried an umbrella until last year. i also swore i would never wear a hooded waterproof anorak but succumbed to practicality several years ago. motherhood can really squash one's fashion aspirations. while i am sure there are cool coats/boots/umbrellas to be found, my budget doesn't allow for much in the way of luxury items. quite frankly, i am not much for wearing a big logo anyway. so i am on the search for new rainboots/wellies/gumboots/hipwaders.

i am a huge fan of aigle boots. when i lived in japan i had a lovely pair - lost to a bonfire - sad, sad story. now to find the perfect raincoat with a hood!
